Washington Approves 40 F-35 Fighters to Greece Worth USD 8.6 billion

Defense News ,Greece :- The U.S. Department of State has granted approval for a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) encompassing up to 40 Lockheed Martin F-35A (Conventional Take Off and Landing) aircraft along with associated equipment to Greece.

As disclosed by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the anticipated contract is valued at USD 8.6 billion, covering the procurement of F-35A Lightning II fighter jets and a comprehensive array of related equipment. This includes 42 F135-PW-100 engines, consisting of 40 installed and 2 spare units, manufactured by Pratt & Whitney.

In a statement, the DSCA highlighted that this proposed sale is poised to empower Greece in modernizing its air force, enhancing its capability to safeguard its airspace, and contributing to NATO missions for regional security. Furthermore, the acquisition of F-35s is expected to address the growing obsolescence of other aircraft in the Hellenic Air Force fleet, such as the F-4 and Mirage 2000. The DSCA expressed confidence that Greece will seamlessly integrate these cutting-edge assets into its armed forces, fostering interoperability with both U.S. and NATO forces.
