US and Germany Supplied 99% of Israel's Weapon Imports Despite Intense Pressure
Defense News ,Israel :- A recent study found out that most of the weapons and equipment delivered to Israel in 2023 came from the United States and Germany.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released data showing that 69 percent of the weapons Israel got came from American makers, while 30 percent were from Germany. Italy, another country, only supplied a tiny fraction, about 0.9 percent, of Israel's arms.
The study also revealed that almost all of Israel's current Air Force planes are from the US, except for one helicopter from France. The US quickly sent thousands of guided bombs and missiles to Israel by the end of 2023. Additionally, Israel is expecting to receive 61 combat aircraft from the US and four submarines from Germany soon.
SIPRI mentioned that the weapons from these countries have been used by Israel in its military operations against groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.
Global Pressure
This information comes at a time when there are growing calls worldwide to stop providing arms to Israel. This is because Israel has been involved in continuous ground and aerial attacks on Gaza.
Since the conflict started between Hamas and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in October of the previous year, more than 32,000 Palestinians, many of them women and children, have lost their lives.
Recently, Canada decided to stop exporting arms to Israel. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed concerns about Israel's actions and the reported lack of effort to protect civilians.
Eight senators from the United States have also written a letter to President Joe Biden, asking him to halt weapons supply to Israel. They mentioned concerns about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's actions hindering humanitarian operations in Gaza and making it hard for the US to deliver aid safely.
Reports in the media have suggested strained relations between Biden and Netanyahu after Biden called for a reduction in Israel's offensive in Palestinian territories.
