UK to Send 200 Air Defence Missiles to Ukraine

Defense News ,UK & Ukraine :- The United Kingdom is set to dispatch approximately 200 air defense missiles to Ukraine in a bid to enhance the protection of civilians and vital infrastructure against Russian drone attacks and bombings, as announced by the British Ministry of Defence on Friday.

This move follows a significant missile assault by Russia on Ukraine, described by Kyiv as one of the most extensive attacks of the war, resulting in the tragic loss of 18 civilians and leaving dozens more injured.

British Defence Secretary Grant Shapps asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin is testing Ukraine defenses and gauging the resolve of the Western nations. Shapps stated, "Putin is hoping that he can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, but he is wrong." He called for unity among the free world, urging increased efforts to provide Ukraine with the necessary resources to secure victory.

The air defense missiles, produced by the UK-based defense contractor MBDA, are specifically designed for deployment from various aircraft, including the Typhoon and F-35 fighter jets, according to the Ministry of Defence.

In a commitment to supporting Ukraine, Britain has allocated a total of £4.6 billion (equivalent to $5.9 billion) in military assistance over a span of two years. This move underscores the UK dedication to bolstering Ukraine defense capabilities during this critical period of conflict.
