Turkish Bayraktar TB3 UCAV Sets New Altitude Record with Home Produce Engine
Turkish defense company Baykar Technologies achieves a new altitude record of 33,000 feet with its Bayraktar TB3 unmanned combat aerial vehicle, powered by the domestically developed PD-170 engine, showcasing Turkey's advancement in aviation technology.
In a significant milestone for Turkish aviation, Baykar Technologies, a leading defense company, has announced the remarkable achievements of its Bayraktar TB3 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV). The latest flight tests have seen the TB3 soar to new heights, reaching an altitude of 33,000 feet, setting a new record for Turkish aircraft.
Powered by the domestically developed PD-170 engine, the Bayraktar TB3 has been undergoing rigorous testing at the AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center in Çorlu, Tekirdağ province. This recent accomplishment underscores the advanced capabilities of the PD-170 engine, produced by TUSAŞ Engine Industries Inc., marking a historic moment in Turkish aviation history.
Since its maiden flight on October 27, 2023, the Bayraktar TB3 has logged an impressive 327 hours and 35 minutes in test flights. Notably, it achieved a continuous flight duration of 32 hours, covering a distance of 5,700 kilometers. These tests have demonstrated the UCAV's robust performance capabilities and its potential to serve in various operational capacities.
Moreover, the integration and successful flight tests of the domestically developed ASELFLIR-500 system further enhance the Bayraktar TB3's operational readiness. Globally recognized for its superior performance, this system equips the UCAV for reconnaissance, intelligence, and attack missions, bolstering Türkiye’s defense capabilities.
One of the standout features of the Bayraktar TB3 is its design with foldable wings, enabling it to become the first armed UCAV capable of operating from short-runway ships, such as the TCG Anadolu, the flagship of the Turkish Navy. This capability, coupled with its beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) communication, positions the UCAV as a pivotal asset in various military operations.
Selçuk Bayraktar, Chairperson and CTO of Baykar, emphasized the significance of these achievements and outlined plans to conduct tests of the Bayraktar TB3 aboard the TCG Anadolu in 2024. The ongoing success of the Bayraktar TB3 reflects Baykar’s dedication to advancing Turkish defense technology on a global scale.
In summary, the recent accomplishments of the Bayraktar TB3 UCAV mark a significant advancement in Turkish aviation, showcasing the nation's prowess in developing cutting-edge defense technologies. With its record-breaking altitude, robust performance, and versatile capabilities, the Bayraktar TB3 stands poised to play a crucial role in safeguarding Türkiye’s security interests.
