Spain Awards $2.2 Billion in Armored Vehicle Deal
Defense News ,Spain :- Spain has recently solidified a significant contract with TESS Defence, marking a pivotal move to modernize the nation TOA M-113 armored vehicle fleet. Under this $2.2-billion agreement, TESS Defence will spearhead the design and manufacturing efforts for the Spanish Army Vehículo de Apoyo de Cadenas (VAC) tracked support vehicles.
This strategic program is not just a vehicle upgrade initiative; its a substantial boost to Spain national defense industry, involving collaboration with over 400 national suppliers and various production structures. The primary objective is to enhance the Spanish army vehicle fleet with upgraded protection, mobility, and firepower, vital for operational and logistical missions.
Unveiled earlier this year, the VAC lineup boasts anti-tank defense capabilities, featuring a 120-mm heavy carrier, forward observer, and personnel carrier variants. What sets these vehicles apart is their integration of 5G connectivity and an advanced monitoring system designed to optimize maintenance procedures.
TESS Defence, drawing from its successful experience in developing the army VCR8x8 Dragon combat vehicles, is well-positioned for future arms deals. Notably, trials for the 348-unit Dragon fleet commenced in 2022 after passing critical design reviews, with the armored vehicles slated for delivery by 2027.
"The experience gained through TESS Defence involvement in the VCR8x8 Program, coupled with the resources and capabilities of its partners, positions the company to seamlessly transfer mature technical solutions for the rapid commissioning of the VAC," stated the company. This move signifies a significant step forward in Spain efforts to modernize and reinforce its armored vehicle capabilities for future defense needs.
