Singapore Selects IAI Blue Spear Missiles for Formidable-Class Frigates

Defense News ,Singapore :- Singapore Navy has opted for the cutting-edge Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) Blue Spear missile to outfit its Formidable-class frigate fleet, comprising six vessels.

Derived from the French Navy La Fayette-class frigate, the Formidable-class multi-role stealth frigates will see the replacement of the current American Harpoon missiles with the advanced Blue Spear anti-ship missiles.

Developed through collaboration between IAI and Singapore ST Engineering, the 5th generation Blue Spear missile has already been chosen by Estonia in previous years. Renowned for its precision, this missile operates in diverse weather conditions, offering day and night capabilities for striking both mobile and stationary sea targets beyond the line of sight.

Boasting a maximum range of 290 km, the Blue Spear missile shares a lineage with IAI Gabriel missile family system, showcasing years of developmental expertise. The system facilitates launches from various land-based platforms, achieving high sub-sonic speeds during flight.

The missile warhead incorporates an active radar-homing seeker, precise INS-based navigation, and a robust system resistant to GPS disruptions, ensuring maximal accuracy in target acquisition. Additionally, the Blue Spear system comes equipped with a range of deception mechanisms to enhance mission success.
