"Sense Of Pride": PM Modi After Flying On Tejas Fighter Jet In Bengaluru

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to the skies on Saturday for a sortie aboard the TEJAS aircraft, expressing renewed confidence in India indigenous capabilities. Sporting the uniform of an Air Force pilot, a visibly delighted Modi waved multiple times during the experience.

Sharing the adventure on the social media platform "X," the prime minister stated, "Successfully completed a sortie on the TEJAS." He further described the enriching experience as significantly boosting his confidence in India indigenous capabilities, leaving him filled with pride and optimism about the nation potential.

In videos and pictures, Modi is seen flashing thumbs-up gestures with a broad smile, both upon boarding and landing the aircraft. Standing next to the TEJAS, he pointed at the aircraft designation, emphasizing the achievement.

"Flying in TEJAS today, I can say with immense pride that due to our hard work and dedication, we are no less than anyone in the world in the field of self-reliance. Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Air Force, DRDO, and HAL as well as all Indians," Modi added.

Before boarding the twin-seater aircraft, Modi engaged in a brief chat with the waiting pilot. During the sortie, he keenly observed the surroundings, exchanging waves with another fighter aircraft at a visible distance, as captured by cameras inside the cabin and the accompanying aircraft.

Upon landing, the prime minister again waved and made thumbs-up gestures, applauding the Air Force officials for their role in the experience. Modi had earlier visited Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to review the ongoing work at its manufacturing facilities.

Emphasizing the push for indigenous production of defense products, Modi highlighted the government efforts in boosting manufacturing and exports. Notably, several countries have expressed interest in purchasing TEJAS, a light combat aircraft. During Modi recent state visit to the US, a pact was signed between US defense giant GE Aerospace and HAL to jointly produce engines for the TEJAS MK-2.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in April of this year, announced that India defense exports had reached an all-time high of Rs 15,920 crore in 2022-2023, marking a significant achievement for the country.
