Defense News ,Poland :- The keel laying ceremony for the second of two cutting-edge Polish signals intelligence ships took place on January 23 at Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. in Gdansk, Poland. Distinguished attendees included representatives from Saab, the Polish Armament Agency, the Polish Navy, Remontowa Holding, and other invited guests.

Saab secured the contract for the design and production of two signal intelligence ships, featuring advanced mission systems integration, for the Polish Navy on November 25, 2022. Remontowa Shipbuilding SA was subsequently subcontracted to construct the ships in Poland.

Lars Brännström, Deputy Head and Chief Marketing Officer for Saab’s business area Kockums, emphasized the significance of the keel laying ceremony, stating, “The keel laying ceremony today is an important milestone in the shipbuilding process, and we appreciate the cooperation with our Polish customer, the Armament Agency, and our partner in this project, Remontowa Holding, to secure new capabilities for the Polish Navy.”

A SIGINT ship plays a vital role in supporting the acquisition of intelligence data across a wide spectrum of naval intelligence capabilities. The keel laying ceremony for the first SIGINT ship occurred on July 27, 2023.

Saab Technologies Poland Sp. z o.o. officially opened a new office in Gdansk on January 23, 2024, immediately following the successful keel laying ceremony for the second SIGINT ship. Simultaneously, Saab Technologies aims to enhance industrial cooperation with its partner and shipbuilding subcontractor, Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. in Gdansk. This move reinforces Saab Technologies' commitment to the project and expands its operational footprint in Poland to a total of eight sites.
