Russia Accuses Armenia of Straining Diplomatic Relations
Defense News ,Russia ,Armenia :- Russia has accused Armenia of trying to damage their relationship. Armenia is upset with Russia's role in keeping peace in their region. They've been in a tense situation with their neighbor, Azerbaijan, for many years. Armenia believes Russia didn't help them enough during a conflict in 2020.
The leader of Russia's Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, said Armenia's leaders are purposely making things worse between the two countries.
Armenia has talked about leaving a group called the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), which Russia leads. This group includes some countries that used to be part of the Soviet Union.
Armenia's Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, said their security agreements with Russia aren't working. Last year, Azerbaijan took control of a region called Nagorno Karabakh. This area was controlled by Armenian separatists, but Azerbaijan claimed it as theirs. Russian soldiers were supposed to keep the peace there after a war in 2020.
Armenia didn't attend a meeting of the CSTO because they felt the group didn't help them when they needed it.
Armenia is now trying to make friends with Western countries like France and the United States to find new ways to stay safe.
