Rheinmetall and Anduril Partner to Develop New C-sUAS Air Defense Systems for European Markets

Rheinmetall, a leading technology group based in Düsseldorf, and US-based Anduril Industries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and produce advanced Counter small Unmanned Aerial System (C-sUAS) air defense systems. The MoU was signed during Eurosatory, one of the world's top defense and security trade shows held in Paris. This collaboration aims to address primarily the European markets with innovative air defense solutions.

The partnership will leverage Rheinmetall’s expertise in high-power guns and command and control systems, specifically its Skymaster system, and combine them with Anduril’s advanced technology. Anduril’s contributions include the Sentry Tower, Wisp sensors, and the Anvil autonomous interceptor. The combination of these technologies will create a robust, layered C-sUAS system designed to effectively counter drone threats.

Oliver Dürr, CEO of Rheinmetall Air Defence AG, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating that the collaboration will bring together Rheinmetall’s military capabilities and Anduril’s rapid development strengths. He emphasized that this combination will meet the future needs of clients by delivering the right solutions at the right time.

Greg Kausner, Anduril’s Senior Vice President of Global Defence, highlighted the rapid pace of technological advancements in warfare. He noted that modern air defense systems must be flexible, adaptable, and quickly deployable to address evolving threats from both unmanned systems and traditional manned platforms. Kausner believes the partnership with Rheinmetall will provide a cutting-edge, software-defined, and hardware-enabled C-sUAS system to keep defense forces ahead of drone threats.

Rheinmetall has a long history of delivering high-power air defense systems globally, while Anduril specializes in autonomous weapons systems powered by its AI-enabled Lattice software platform. This collaboration aims to integrate a comprehensive range of sensors and effectors, from lethal to non-lethal, to enhance survivability and provide new strategic and operational advantages.

The combined capabilities of Rheinmetall and Anduril will create a layered defense solution that includes various hard kill effectors, non-lethal measures, gun missiles, and state-of-the-art detection sensors. This system is designed to significantly enhance defense capabilities against emerging drone threats, ensuring that global defense forces remain ahead in an increasingly complex security landscape.
