Remain 16 Indian Crew Members of Seized Cargo Ship Granted Freedom to Leave Iran
In a recent update regarding the 16 Indian crew members stranded on a seized cargo ship in Iran, Ambassador Iraj Elahi affirmed that they are not under detention and are free to leave the country at their convenience. This announcement comes following the safe return of Ann Tessa Joseph, a deck cadet from India, to her homeland.
Joseph, hailing from Thrissur in Kerala, was warmly received at the Cochin International Airport by the Regional Passport Officer after her ordeal. The assurance of the crew members' freedom was reiterated by Ambassador Elahi in a phone interview, signaling a positive step towards resolving the situation.
The External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar, underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to ensuring the safety of Indian citizens, both domestically and abroad. This commitment was reflected in the diplomatic discussions held between Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart, Amir Abdollahian.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Indian Mission in Tehran and the Iranian government in facilitating Joseph's safe return. These efforts underscored the ongoing engagement between Indian and Iranian authorities to secure the well-being and safe return of the remaining crew members of the MSC Aries.
"The Indian Mission in Tehran remains actively involved in the matter, maintaining communication with the 16 Indian crew members of the container vessel," stated the MEA. It reassured that the crew members are in good health and in touch with their families in India. Furthermore, the MEA affirmed continued coordination with Iranian authorities to ensure the well-being of all remaining crew members.
This development brings a sense of relief to the families of the stranded crew members and demonstrates the effectiveness of diplomatic channels in resolving such delicate situations. As efforts persist to secure the safe return of all Indian crew members, the collaborative approach between India and Iran stands as a testament to international cooperation in safeguarding the rights and well-being of individuals across borders.
