Norway to Reduce NASAMS Air Defense System Delivery Times

The Norwegian government plans to spend 940 million kroner (equal to $88 million) to make sure the delivery of Kongsberg's National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) is faster.

This plan will be given to the Norwegian Parliament as part of making the Norwegian Armed Forces stronger.

If it gets approved, they will buy important parts needed to make NASAMS launchers quicker. This will help reduce long waiting times and speed up making the missile system.

This idea is coming up because of worries about safety due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. This war has shown how important it is to defend against attacks from the air.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said, "Because of the situation we're in now, we need to buy advanced air defense systems faster. What's happening in Ukraine shows how crucial air defense is during war."

Protecting the Skies

The NASAMS system has already been tested in Ukraine. Norway gave this system to Kyiv in 2023 to help them with their defense.

This system is used to stop drones, helicopters, and cruise missiles. It works by connecting radars, sensors, and missile launchers, which can react quickly.

NASAMS was made by Kongsberg and Raytheon. It's designed to easily change with new technology and can use different types of missiles.

NASAMS is already being used in 13 countries, including Australia, Chile, Spain, and the US.
