Mobile Internet Suspended Amidst Rising Tensions in J&K ,Poonch and Rajouri After Army Ambush
Defense News , India :- In an effort to apprehend those responsible for a recent ambush on two Army vehicles that resulted in the tragic death of five soldiers, mobile Internet services were abruptly suspended in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The move, implemented early Saturday, is part of a broader security initiative by the authorities conducting a massive search operation in the region.
The suspension of mobile Internet services was deemed a precautionary measure to curb the spread of rumors and prevent potential law and order disturbances, as reports of three individuals mysteriously dying after being detained by the Army for questioning circulated. The public discontent intensified with the emergence of videos allegedly depicting the torture of the suspects.
While official details regarding the ground situation remain guarded, sources confirm the increased deployment of additional police and paramilitary personnel in sensitive areas to maintain peace. Senior officials from the Army, police, and civil administration are closely monitoring developments.
The incident that triggered these measures involved three to four heavily-armed terrorists targeting an army gypsy and a truck in the Dhatyar Morh area of Poonch. The attackers, responsible for killing five soldiers and injuring two others, reportedly mutilated the bodies of at least two victims and seized their weapons.
Following the ambush, an extensive search operation was launched in densely forested areas, including Thanamandi in Rajouri. As of the latest reports, there has been no fresh contact with the fleeing terrorists.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, three individuals detained for questioning in connection with Thursday attack—Safeer Hussain (43), Mohd Showket (27), and Shabir Ahmad (32) of Topa Peer village in Bufliaz—died under mysterious circumstances on Friday. The bodies have been handed over to their families for last rites, while investigations into the cause of their deaths continue.
