Maldives Acquires Bayraktar TB2 Drones From Turkey
Defense News ,Maldives :- The Maldives has recently strengthened its national security by obtaining its first-ever military drones from Turkey. The Baykar's Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) have been delivered and are now stationed at Maafaru International Airport in Northern Maldives.
While the official announcement is pending, local reports suggest that the Maldivian government plans to start using the drones approximately a week after receiving them. These UCAVs will be responsible for patrolling the country's vast exclusive economic zone, covering 347,000 square miles (900,000 square kilometers) of the archipelago.
This military drone deal is valued at around $37 million, with each drone and its accompanying systems priced at approximately $5 million. The decision aligns with President Mohamed Muizzu's policy amendments aimed at modernizing the Maldives National Defence Force, enhancing its capabilities in land, sea, and air defenses.
