Lockheed Martin Delivers 75th APY-9 Radar for U.S Navy E-2D Advanced Hawkeye

Defense News ,U.S :- Lockheed Martin, operating under a contract with Northrop Grumman for the U.S. Navy's E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, recently marked a significant achievement with the delivery of the 75th APY-9 radar. This radar system plays a pivotal role in providing the U.S. Navy with unparalleled information dominance through its revolutionary sensor capabilities. The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, equipped with Lockheed Martin's APY-9 radar, has earned the reputation of being the foremost Airborne Early Warning (AEW) platform globally, surpassing all others in terms of production and delivery.

Chandra Marshall, Vice President of Lockheed Martin’s Radar & Sensor Systems business, emphasized the APY-9 radar's long legacy in offering agile deterrence for enhanced 21st-century security. Marshall stated, "Our primary focus is to bring our military men and women home safely, and the APY-9 sets the bar for all other AEW radars."

Positioned at the forefront of technological capability, the newest Advanced Hawkeye variant owes much of its success to Lockheed Martin's APY-9 radar. Referred to as the U.S. Navy's "eyes of the fleet," the E-2D has the unique ability to simultaneously monitor air, land, and sea, safeguarding the United States and its allies whenever a Navy carrier has aircraft airborne.

The U.S. Navy has allocated funds for 80 out of 86 aircraft in the current program of record, with Japan acquiring 18 E-2D Hawkeyes and France securing three. Given the demand from both the U.S. and international markets, the APY-9 radar is expected to remain in production until the late 2020s, with ongoing modernization and sustainment efforts projected well into the 2040s.

Lockheed Martin's collaboration with Northrop Grumman on the E-2D platform spans over two decades. The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, powered by Lockheed Martin's radar technology, delivers critical and actionable data, enabling decision dominance for joint forces and first responders. These advancements contribute to providing militaries with essential situational awareness, reducing the time between initial awareness and active engagement.

Boasting broad and deep expertise in developing and delivering advanced radar solutions, Lockheed Martin's high-performing, high-reliability radar systems specialize in advanced early warning, counter target acquisition, situational awareness, and integrated air and missile defense. Designed with a high degree of commonality, these radars are available in highly mobile configurations, operate in all environments, and are deployed worldwide. Lockheed Martin's radars have become the preferred choice of more than 45 nations across six continents.
