Launching Of MCA Barge LSAM 10 (Yard 78) At Visakhapatnam
The inauguration of LSAM 10 (Yard 78), the fourth Barge in the Missile Cum Ammunition Barge project, marked a significant milestone for MSME Shipyard, M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL), Visakhapatnam, in collaboration with the Indian Navy. The launch took place on November 20, 23, at Guttenadeevi, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, the designated site of M/s SEPPL.
Commander Shanmugam Sabesan, CRO (East), presided over the launching ceremony, showcasing the culmination of efforts in the development of this critical naval asset.
Initiated through a contract signed on February 19, 21, between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam, the project involved the construction of eight Missile Cum Ammunition Barges. The successful completion of LSAM 10 and its counterparts is poised to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Navy. These barges will play a vital role in facilitating the transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of articles and ammunition for IN Ships, both at jetties and outer harbors.
Notably, these Barges adhere to indigenous design principles, crafted in compliance with the Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). The meticulous design process included model testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, ensuring the highest standards of quality and functionality.
These Barges stand as proud symbols of the Make in India initiative, reflecting the commitment of the Government of India (GoI) to bolster domestic manufacturing capabilities in the defense sector. The LSAM 10 launch exemplifies the synergy between public and private entities in advancing India maritime prowess.
