Iraq Boosts Air Defense with New Weapons Amid Growing Threats
Defense News ,Iraq :- Iraq is getting new weapons to defend its airspace. The country wants to be safer because there are more dangers around.
A big spokesperson, Major General Yehia Rasool, said Iraq is talking to many countries about buying weapons. They want to see what options they have.
Iraq has received some offers for these weapons, but they haven't said who they're buying from yet.
We don't know how much money Iraq plans to spend on these weapons. They haven't told us if they've already decided what to buy.
Even though we don't have all the details, Rasool said these new weapons will work with some French radars Iraq already got. This will make Iraq's defenses better.
Rasool said, "Iraq has got some French radars, and we're working on getting more. We're getting all kinds of radars - ones that can see far and ones that can't."
Iraq is worried about threats to its airspace. Turkey and Iran have attacked Iraq's airspace before.
In January, an Iranian missile hit a house in Kurdistan, Iraq. It killed four people and hurt six others.
After that, Iraq's missile defense stopped a drone attack by a group called the Islamic Resistance in Iraq. They were targeting a place where American and Iraqi soldiers are.
Turkey also attacked a group called the Kurdistan Workers Party in northern Iraq. Two civilians died in this attack.
Iraq is thinking about asking American troops to leave. They don't want their country to be a place where other countries fight.
