Iranian-Made Quds-2 Cruise Missile Crashes in Sudan

An Iranian-made cruise missile, believed to have been launched from Yemen toward a commercial vessel in the Red Sea, crashed unexpectedly in Sudan. Social media reports have surfaced about an unidentified missile crashing and exploding on Sudanese territory. Video footage circulating on social platforms shows remnants allegedly from the Quds-2 cruise missile, a weapon often used by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen to target civilian ships.

The Quds-2 missile, part of the Iranian-designed Quds family, is mainly designed for land-based targets. It is an upgraded version of the Quds-1, known for its high speed and a range of around 1,350 kilometers (840 miles). These missiles are based on Iran’s Soumar cruise missile, which itself is modeled after the Soviet-era Kh-55. The exact cause of the missile's crash is yet to be determined.
