Indian Navy TEDBF New Fighter Jet: What You Need to Know
Defense News ,India :- The Indian Navy is working on a new fighter jet to use on aircraft carriers. It's called the Twin Engine Deck Based Fighter (TEDBF). This new jet is being developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA). The aim is to replace the old MiG-29K jets that are currently on the INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant carriers.
The ADA is working hard to finish the Critical Design Review (CDR) for all the systems of the TEDBF by early 2025. This review is important because it makes sure everything works well and fits the navy's needs.
After looking at two design ideas, the Indian Navy chose one that the ADA will improve for the CDR. If everything goes well with the review, the navy will approve the TEDBF program. Then it will go to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to get money for it.
The plan is to finish building the first TEDBF jets in four years and have them ready for use by 2034. Although they wanted to start testing the jet in 2026, it might not happen until later in the 2030s.
The Indian Navy wants to buy the TEDBF in two groups, with 45 jets in each group. The first prototypes will likely use GE-F414 engines, but later versions might have stronger engines. These engines are still being developed.
The ADA needs a lot of money, about ₹13,000 crores, to make the TEDBF. This shows how important it is for the navy to have good fighter jets.
The TEDBF program is a big deal for the Indian Navy. It will help them be better prepared and more independent. Getting new jets will also mean they can replace the old MiG-29K planes. This project shows that India is getting better at making advanced technology for defense.
