Indian Navy Rescues Over 100 Lives in Anti-Piracy Operations: Details and Success Story

Defense News ,India :-  In a recent announcement, the Indian Navy shared some remarkable news about their efforts in the Arabian Sea. They rescued over 100 people from dangerous situations, including 27 from Pakistan and 30 from Iran. These rescues were part of various anti-piracy operations aimed at keeping the waters safe.

The Indian Navy revealed that besides conducting anti-piracy missions, such as 'Operation Sankalp,' they also responded to 13 attack incidents to save the lives of 110 individuals. Among those rescued were 45 Indians and 65 people from different countries.

To strengthen security in the Arabian Sea, the Indian Navy deployed 10 warships along with surveillance aircraft. These measures were taken to prevent piracy and drone attacks in the region, ensuring the safety of Indian and international cargo traffic.

Additionally, the Indian Air Force played a vital role by providing support. Their C-17 transport aircraft crew assisted in airdropping Marine Commandos and their equipment in the Arabian Sea for special operations against sea pirates.

The Indian Navy's efforts came to light after the successful conclusion of a significant anti-piracy operation in the Arabian Sea. This operation involved capturing 35 Somali pirates, who were later handed over to the Mumbai Police.

The operation utilized various resources, including a navy destroyer, a patrol ship, an Indian Air Force C-17 transporter, drones, and a surveillance jet. These assets were strategically deployed to intercept the pirate ship Ruen, which posed a threat after leaving Somali waters.

Based on surveillance information, the Indian Navy tracked the movement of the pirate ship Ruen and directed INS Kolkata to intercept it. Kolkata successfully intercepted Ruen on March 15, confirming the presence of armed pirates through a ship-launched drone.

During the interception, the pirates engaged in gunfire, shooting down the drone and targeting the Indian Naval warship. In response, INS Kolkata disabled the pirate ship's steering system and navigational aids, forcing it to stop.

With precise actions and negotiations, INS Kolkata managed to secure the surrender of all 35 Somali pirates on March 16. The original crew members of MV Ruen, totaling 17 individuals, were safely evacuated without any harm.

The capture of the MV Ruen by Somali pirates in December marked a significant event. However, the Indian Navy's swift and effective response demonstrated their commitment to maritime security and protecting lives at sea. Through coordinated efforts and strategic operations, they ensured the safety of individuals and prevented further acts of piracy in the region.
