India, Russia Seal Deal On Future Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project
Defense News , India & Russia :- In a significant development, India announced on Tuesday that it has officially entered into agreements with Russia to pave the way for the expansion of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tamil Nadu. The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar during his ongoing visit to Russia.
While in Moscow, Jaishankar is scheduled to engage in discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, on Wednesday. The talks are expected to cover a spectrum of topics, including the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two nations, as well as addressing international conflicts such as those in Ukraine and Gaza. Additionally, the agenda includes deliberations on matters related to groups such as BRICS.
During a gathering with the Indian community in Moscow, Jaishankar shared, "Today, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, we signed some important agreements pertaining to future units of the Kudankulam Nuclear Project." These agreements mark a significant step forward in the collaborative efforts between India and Russia in the field of nuclear energy.
The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project initial two units commenced construction nearly two decades ago, following a joint project signed by both nations. The recent agreements signify a commitment to furthering this partnership and expanding the scope of the project in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
The enduring close relationship between New Delhi and Moscow, spanning several decades, is highlighted by India steadfast refusal to condemn Russia in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. This diplomatic stance underscores the resilience and strength of the historical ties between the two nations.
As India and Russia move forward with these agreements, the future of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project appears promising, contributing not only to the energy needs of Tamil Nadu but also fostering the enduring partnership between these two influential countries.
