India Confirms Export Contract of MARG 155mm Wheeled Self-Propelled Howitzers to Armenia

Bharat Forge Kalyani Group, a prominent Indian defense company, has officially sealed a significant export agreement with Armenia. This landmark deal encompasses the sale of cutting-edge MArG 155 wheeled self-propelled howitzers and ATAGS 155mm towed guns, signaling a new era in the defense relations between India and Armenia, as reported by Army Recognition.

The accord comes in the wake of Armenian Defence Minister Suren Papikyan visit to DefExpo-2022 in Gandhinagar, India, during October 2022. The event showcased India domestically manufactured armaments and defense systems, underscoring the deepening military bonds between the two nations, which have been steadily strengthening.

This recent arms agreement is part of a broader series of defense contracts inked between India and Armenia. In September 2022, Armenia finalized a $245 million deal with India for the acquisition of Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, anti-tank rockets, and various ammunition types. This followed a 2020 agreement wherein Armenia procured four Swathi mobile radar units from India for $40 million—a deal recognized by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

These deals emphasize India ascendance as a significant supplier of defense equipment, showcasing its prowess in military hardware and technology. Weighing 18 tons and capable of firing a complete range of NATO standard and in-service ammunition, the MArG 155mm/39 cal - BR is both robust and adaptable. Its rapid deployment capability, requiring only 1.5 minutes during the day and 2 minutes at night, proves crucial for swift responses to battlefield demands.
