ISRO Plans Second Mission for Reusable Spacecraft After Successful First Attempt

Space News ,India :-  The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is getting ready for its second Reusable Launch Vehicle Autonomous Landing (RLV-LEX) mission. Dr V Narayanan, the director of LPSC-ISRO, shared that they are aiming to conduct the test on a date after March 16.

Speaking at the National Seminar Space organized by Dr MGR-ACS Centre for Space Technology and the Department of Engineering and Technology, Dr Narayanan emphasized the importance of empowering innovators and start-ups in the space industry.

In April 2023, the first RLV-LEX mission was a success. The test took place at the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) in Chitradurga, Karnataka. During the mission, an RLV prototype was carried by an aircraft to an altitude of 4.5 km. The vehicle then performed a high-speed return of an unmanned spacecraft from orbit, successfully achieving an autonomous landing simulation.

ISRO's RLV-LEX program is a crucial initiative aiming to revolutionize space exploration. Unlike conventional launch vehicles that are used only once, reusable launch vehicles can significantly reduce the cost of space missions. The success of the first mission has paved the way for potential changes and improvements in the upcoming test, bringing ISRO one step closer to making space launches more cost-effective.
