Key Highlights of India Latest Warship:

1. Indigenous Design and Construction:
INS Imphal, a stealth guided missile destroyer, stands out as a testament to indigenous naval prowess. Designed by the navy in-house organization, the Warship Design Bureau, and crafted by Mazagon Dock Limited, a Defense PSU in Mumbai, it symbolizes India self-reliance in naval technology.

2. North-Eastern Significance:
The third of the "Visakhapatnam" class destroyers, INS Imphal is the first warship to bear the name of a north-eastern city, following presidential approval. This naming choice underscores the strategic importance of the region, emphasizing its role in national security and prosperity.

3. Swift Construction and Delivery:
With the keel laid on May 19, 2017, and the ship launched on April 20, 2019, INS Imphal boasts a remarkable timeline from construction to delivery. The indigenously-built destroyer was handed over to the Navy on October 20, 2023, making it the quickest turnaround for any indigenous destroyer.

4. Historic Missile Testing:
INS Imphal achieved a historic feat as India first warship to conduct successful missile tests before commissioning. Notably, the extended-range supersonic BrahMos missile was test-fired in November, showcasing the vessel advanced capabilities.

5. Operational Speed and Power:
With a displacement of 7,400 tonnes and an overall length of 164 meters, INS Imphal is powered by Combined Gas and Gas (COGAG) propulsion, enabling speeds exceeding 30 knots (56 km/hour). Its operational prowess is a key asset for the Western Naval Command.

6. Advanced Weaponry and Defense Systems:
Equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance radar, indigenously developed rocket launchers, torpedo launchers, and anti-submarine warfare helicopters, INS Imphal is a formidable force. It is designed to operate under diverse conditions, including Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) warfare scenarios.

INS Imphal commissioning marks a significant stride in India naval capabilities, reflecting a blend of advanced technology, strategic foresight, and indigenous innovation. As it takes its place in the fleet, the destroyer stands ready to contribute to the nation maritime security and defense.
