An Apache helicopter belonging to the Indian Air Force had to make an emergency landing in Ladakh due to challenging terrain and high altitude conditions, the IAF confirmed on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday during an operational training mission. Fortunately, both pilots aboard the helicopter are safe, the IAF stated. However, the aircraft sustained damage during the landing process.

The IAF has initiated a Court of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the incident. The pilots have been safely recovered to the nearest airbase.

The IAF issued a brief statement saying, "An IAF Apache helicopter carried out a precautionary landing during an operational training sortie in Ladakh on April 3. During the process of this landing, it sustained damage due to undulating terrain and high altitude."

This incident underscores the challenges faced by military aircraft operating in the region, known for its rugged landscape and extreme weather conditions.
