Havildar Preeti Rajak Makes History as First Woman Subedar in the Indian Army
Defense News ,India :- In a moment of pride for both the Indian Army and women across the nation, Havildar Preeti Rajak, an accomplished trap shooter, achieved a groundbreaking milestone by being promoted to the esteemed rank of Subedar on Sunday. This makes Subedar Rajak the first woman to hold such a position within the Indian Army, marking an extraordinary accomplishment in the realm of Nari Shakti.
Subedar Preeti Rajak commenced her journey in the Army with the Corps of Military Police in December 2022, standing out as the first meritorious sportswoman in the shooting discipline to be enrolled as a Havildar. Her dedication and exceptional performance were further highlighted when she secured a silver medal in the trap women team event during the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
Recognizing her remarkable achievements, the Army acknowledged Subedar Rajak's outstanding contribution and granted her the rare honor of an out-of-turn promotion to the rank of Subedar. Currently ranked sixth in India for the trap women event, she is diligently honing her skills at the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) in preparation for the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
The Indian Army expressed confidence that Subedar Preeti Rajak's groundbreaking accomplishment will serve as a powerful inspiration for generations of young women, encouraging them to not only join the Indian Army but also excel in professional shooting. The Army also noted another commendable promotion, as Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee Subedar Major and Honorary Lieutenant Jitu Rai was elevated to the rank of Subedar Major and Honorary Captain for his exceptional service.
