Defense News ,World :- Hyundai Heavy Industries is making big moves in the defense sector by teaming up with British company Babcock to create export-type submarines. This collaboration was confirmed during a meeting at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center, where important people from both companies came together.
The focus of the discussion was on a new export-type submarine project that will be lightweight, weighing less than 3,000 tons. Babcock's Weapon Handling and Launch System (WHLS) will be integrated, making this submarine a top-notch choice in technology for the global market.
Hyundai Heavy Industries has a track record of success in submarine development, including the construction of a Type 214 submarine with an Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system, as stated in their press release.
Now, Hyundai Heavy Industries is looking to use its expertise to design and build various types of submarines, aiming to be a strong player in the global naval ship export market. They have already secured multiple orders from the Philippines for frigates, patrol vessels, and Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV), solidifying their leading position in the sector.
