The recent joint news conference held by French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted key diplomatic discussions between France and China, particularly concerning the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.
President Macron emphasized that France is not engaged in a war with Russia or its people, clarifying that there is no intention to seek a change of power in Russia. Instead, European countries, including France, expressed readiness to support Ukraine for as long as necessary.
During the talks, both leaders called for a ceasefire in Ukraine and other global conflicts, coinciding with the Paris Olympic Games. They also discussed China's support for Russia's President Vladimir Putin.
President Macron welcomed China's commitments to refrain from selling weapons to Russia and to closely monitor the export of dual-use equipment, considering these actions reassuring.
President Xi cautioned against unfairly criticizing China's stance on Ukraine and urged all parties to prioritize engagement and dialogue to foster mutual trust. He stressed the importance of China and France working together to prevent a new Cold War or bloc confrontation.
In addition to discussions on international conflicts, a joint statement addressed the situation in West Asia, particularly the need for a ceasefire in Gaza to prevent a humanitarian crisis. Both leaders called for the release of hostages, humanitarian aid delivery, and adherence to international law.
Furthermore, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to seeking a political and diplomatic resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
President Xi's visit to France is part of a broader six-day tour of Europe, which includes stops in Serbia and Hungary.
Overall, the discussions between France and China underscored the importance of diplomatic dialogue in addressing global conflicts and promoting cooperation between nations.
