France and Germany lead the Air Defence Coalition for Ukraine

Defense News ,Ukraine Russia War :- On February 14, a group of fifteen countries officially formed a coalition to enhance Ukraine's air defense capabilities. France and Germany are leading this initiative, marking the second coalition under French leadership among the five established to support Ukraine.


The coalition, known as the "Capability Coalition Integrated Air and Missile Defence" (CC IAMD), was launched in Brussels after the signing of a letter of intent in Kiev by Ukrainian officials. Countries such as Belgium, Denmark, Lithuania, Greece, and the United Kingdom have committed to this effort, showcasing significant international support.


German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius highlighted the importance of air defense in ensuring the success of Ukrainian forces. French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu emphasized the coalition's role in protecting both the front lines and civilian populations in Ukraine.


Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from partner nations, recognizing the crucial role of air defense in saving Ukrainian lives amid ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.


The coalition aims to collectively address immediate and long-term needs, establishing a sustainable air defense architecture compatible with NATO forces. Future steps include detailed planning and execution of specific work programs, with leadership roles in various task groups undertaken by France, Germany, and the United States.


France and Germany have already made significant contributions to Ukraine's air defense by providing advanced missile systems and other critical military equipment since the conflict escalated on February 24, 2022.
