A chilling incident has shaken the quiet village of Potali in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district. Late Friday night, Joga Podiyam, a former member of the local Janpad Panchayat, was brutally attacked and killed at his residence by unidentified assailants wielding sharp weapons. 

According to police reports, the assailants, numbering between 8 to 10 and disguised as civilians, barged into Podiyam's home and dragged him onto the street. In front of his helpless family, they mercilessly assaulted him, leaving him lifeless on the ground.

While suspicions initially pointed towards the involvement of Naxalites, no Maoist pamphlets were discovered at the scene. Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into all potential motives, including the possibility of personal vendettas.

The tragic incident has prompted a swift response from law enforcement, with security personnel from the nearby Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) camp promptly arriving at the village upon receiving the distress call. Despite their efforts, the assailants managed to escape into the surrounding forest.

Local accounts reveal a troubling history of threats and violence directed at Podiyam and his family by Naxalite groups. In 2018, he was reportedly warned against supporting developmental initiatives in the area, under the threat of severe consequences. Tragically, a decade prior, Podiyam's own son fell victim to Naxalite brutality, losing his life in a horrific act of arson.

As the community grapples with the shock and grief of yet another senseless loss, authorities are intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime. A thorough search operation is currently underway in the vicinity, aimed at bringing the perpetrators to justice and restoring a sense of security to the affected village.
