Elbit Systems has clinched a $53 million contract to supply its Crossbow Unmanned Turreted Mortar System to General Dynamics European Land Systems, enhancing the firepower and protection of wheeled armored vehicles for a European client. This marks the first order for Crossbow since its debut in 2023, showcasing its advanced capabilities, including rapid firing and compatibility with various ammunition types.
Elbit Systems has recently secured a significant contract worth around USD 53 million. The deal involves supplying the Crossbow Unmanned Turreted 120mm Soft Recoil Mortar Systems to General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS). These mortar systems will be installed on Pandur 6×6 APC wheeled armored vehicles for a European customer. The contract spans over a period of 6 years.
This contract stands as the first of its kind for the Crossbow since its introduction at the DSEI exhibition in London back in 2023. The Crossbow, designed by Elbit Systems, offers exceptional protection and survivability for the mortar operator's crew. It boasts a short sensor-to-shooter cycle, enabling it to fire the first round in under 30 seconds. With a maximum rate of ten rounds per minute and a sustained rate of fire of six rounds per minute, the Crossbow is a formidable addition to any arsenal.
One of the standout features of the Crossbow is its versatility in ammunition. It can fire a range of NATO 120mm ammunition, including the highly precise Iron Sting guided mortar munition. This capability allows for effective engagement at distances of up to 10 kilometers. Additionally, the Crossbow turret provides a full 360° coverage without the need for manual loading.
Yehuda (Udi) Vered, the General Manager of Elbit Systems Land, expressed pride in securing this initial order from a prominent international customer. He emphasized the significance of the Crossbow's advanced technology in meeting the evolving demands of modern warfare.
In summary, Elbit Systems' Crossbow Unmanned Turreted Mortar System represents a cutting-edge solution for military operations. Its precision, versatility, and commitment to innovation make it a valuable asset on the modern battlefield.
