DRDO Successful Test Flight of New Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile
India's Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone on April 18th with the successful test flight of the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile (ITCM). Conducted at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha, the launch showcased the prowess of indigenous technology in bolstering the nation's defense capabilities.
Precision monitoring played a pivotal role in the test flight. Range sensors, including radar and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems (EOTS), alongside telemetry, meticulously tracked the missile's performance across different phases. Complementing these efforts, the Indian Air Force deployed SU-30-Mk-I aircraft for further monitoring, ensuring comprehensive scrutiny of the missile's subsystems, all of which exhibited exceptional performance.
At the core of the ITCM's capabilities lies its advanced features. Employing waypoint navigation for precise guidance, the missile demonstrated its ability to navigate at low altitudes, enhancing its effectiveness in various operational scenarios. Notably, the successful test validated the performance of the missile's indigenous propulsion system, developed by The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) in Bengaluru. Enhanced reliability is ensured through advanced avionics and software integration.
The development of the ITCM stands as a testament to collaborative efforts. Spearheaded by the Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) in Bengaluru, the project saw vital contributions from various DRDO laboratories and Indian industries. Senior scientists from these organizations, alongside representatives from the production partner, witnessed the test, underscoring the collective achievement.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the DRDO for reaching this milestone, emphasizing its significance in advancing Indian defense research and development. Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence- Research and Development (R&D) & Chairman DRDO, also commended the entire team for their dedication and expertise.
The successful development of the ITCM holds profound implications for India's defense capabilities. As an indigenously developed cruise missile with advanced technology and a reliable propulsion system, it enhances the nation's self-sufficiency in defense. This achievement underscores India's commitment to bolstering its defense infrastructure through indigenous innovation and collaborative endeavors.
In conclusion, the successful test flight of the Indigenous Technology Cruise Missile marks a significant milestone in India's defense capabilities. With precision monitoring, advanced features, and collaborative development, the ITCM stands as a testament to India's growing prowess in defense research and development.
