British MPs Table Motion to Mark 34th Anniversary of 'Genocide' of Kashmiri Pandits in J-K

Defense ,India & U.K :- Three UK Members of Parliament, including Bob Blackman, Jim Shannon, and Virendra Sharma, marked the 34th anniversary of the attacks and displacements of Kashmiri Pandits from Jammu and Kashmir in 1990 by tabling an Early Day Motion (EDM) in the British Parliament.

In simple terms, EDMs are like formal requests for discussion in the House of Commons. Although not many are debated, they serve as a way for British MPs to bring attention to specific events or issues.

The motion expressed deep sadness and disappointment about the coordinated attacks in January 1990 by cross-border Islamic terrorists and their supporters on the innocent people of Jammu and Kashmir. It conveyed condolences to the families affected by this tragic event, condemning the desecration of holy sites and expressing concern that justice has not been served for those who faced persecution.

The motion strongly condemned cross-border terrorist attacks and called for their immediate cessation. It also deplored the ongoing targeted killings of Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, it emphasized the international responsibility to protect, urging individual states and the global community to take effective measures against genocide and crimes against humanity, as experienced by Kashmiri Hindus.

Additionally, the motion highlighted the occupation of properties belonging to the minority Hindu community and urged the Government of India to fulfill its international commitment to recognize and acknowledge the worst form of genocide against Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir. It called for the enactment of the proposed Panun Kashmir Genocide Crime Punishment and Atrocities Prevention Bill in the Indian Parliament, aiming to deliver justice to the Kashmiri Pandit community.

Finally, the motion urged the UK Government to extend its longstanding commitment to protect and demand justice for the victims of this genocide.
