Israel Iran War

The incident on Friday at an Iraqi military base housing pro-Iranian paramilitaries has resulted in casualties and material damage, according to official sources. The explosion occurred at the Calso base, where the former pro-Iranian paramilitary group Hashed al-Shaabi, now integrated into the regular army, is stationed.

The Ministry of Interior reported one fatality and eight injuries, while the military source stated that three Iraqi military personnel were wounded. Hashed al-Shaabi confirmed the attack, noting "material losses" and casualties, but did not specify the exact number of casualties.

The organization described the incident as an "explosion" at its premises on the base and dispatched investigators to the site. Authorities have not attributed responsibility for the attack, nor confirmed if it was a drone strike.

According to the Ministry source, the explosion targeted warehouses storing equipment, weapons, and vehicles, with ongoing efforts to extinguish fires and search for injured individuals.

The US military denied involvement, stating that American forces did not conduct airstrikes in Iraq on that day. Hashed al-Shaabi, initially formed to combat the Islamic State group, is now part of Iraq's security forces.

This attack occurs amidst escalating regional tensions due to the conflict between Israel and Tehran-backed Palestinian militants Hamas. Earlier on Friday, strikes attributed to Israel targeted a military base near Isfahan in Iran.
