Biden will send Ukraine Air Defence Weapons, Artillery once Senate Approves, Zelenskyy says
In a recent development, President Joe Biden has assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the United States' commitment to providing much-needed support to Ukraine's defense capabilities. This assurance comes in the wake of escalating tensions as Moscow intensifies its attacks on Ukraine.
President Biden conveyed to President Zelenskyy that the US will send crucial air defense weaponry once the Senate approves a substantial national security aid package, totaling USD 61 billion earmarked for Ukraine. Additionally, the aid package, which has already received approval from the House, includes provisions for other allies.
The urgency for this assistance stems from the heightened attacks by Russia, which has been targeting Ukraine with missiles, drones, and bombs. Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, has particularly felt the brunt of these assaults, with its energy infrastructure under siege and its residents facing grave danger.
The White House confirmed President Biden's commitment to providing significant security assistance to address Ukraine's pressing battlefield and air defense needs. This assistance is expected to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities and help counter Russian aggression effectively.
Furthermore, a bipartisan delegation of US Congress members recently met with President Zelenskyy in Kyiv to discuss Ukraine's urgent requirements. Among the topics of discussion were Ukraine's need for artillery shells, long-range missiles, electronic warfare equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, combat aviation, and support for developing the Ukrainian defense industry.
President Zelenskyy also emphasized Ukraine's aspirations to join NATO and sought US participation in an international conference in Switzerland aimed at fostering peace in Ukraine.
The impending Senate vote on the aid package is eagerly awaited, with President Biden pledging to swiftly sign it into law once approved. The aid is deemed critical in stemming the tide of Russia's assaults and bolstering Ukraine's resilience in the face of ongoing hostilities.
As Ukraine grapples with the challenges posed by Russian aggression, the assurance of US support serves as a beacon of hope, signaling solidarity and commitment to safeguarding Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
