Baykar Unveils KEMANKEŞ 2: Advanced Mini AI-Supported Munition for Precision Strikes
Baykar, a leading Turkish defense technology company, has introduced the KEMANKEŞ 2, an advanced iteration of its renowned mini cruise missile series. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the KEMANKEŞ 2 represents a significant leap forward in precision strike capabilities.
Named after the famed Turkish archers known for their accuracy in challenging conditions, the KEMANKEŞ 2 embodies the spirit of its namesake with its precise targeting abilities. Developed domestically by Baykar, this mini intelligent cruise missile is designed to effectively strike strategic targets, leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance its autopilot system for autonomous operation.
One of the notable advancements of the KEMANKEŞ 2 is its extended range, exceeding 200 km, and an impressive endurance of one hour. Equipped with an Artificial Intelligence Assisted Optical Guidance System, the missile can identify and engage targets with high precision, both day and night. Its robust anti-jamming features ensure reliable performance even in electronically contested environments.
In a departure from its predecessor, which was launched from the Bayraktar TB2 UAV, the KEMANKEŞ 2 introduces a new method for rapid deployment. Successfully launched from a speeding pickup truck during a recent demonstration, this showcases the missile's adaptability to various launch platforms.
While the launch video provided limited visibility of the KEMANKEŞ 2's design, notable features such as the wings and engine suggest similarities to the KaGeM V3, a joint development with Pakistan. However, it's confirmed that they are distinct munitions.
Baykar has ensured interoperability with other Baykar UCAVs, including the Bayraktar AKINCI, Bayraktar TB2, and Bayraktar TB3. This compatibility facilitates direct communication between the drones and the KEMANKEŞ missiles, allowing for real-time telemetry data and video transmission back to the ground control station.
Looking ahead, Baykar envisions the operational version of the KEMANKEŞ 2 to utilize catapults or multi-slot launchers equipped with rocket-assisted takeoff (RATO) for enhanced deployment capabilities.
