Azerbaijan's President Aliyev Issues Warning to Nations, Including India, Over Arms Supply to Armenia

Azerbaijan's President Aliyev warns nations, including India, against arming Armenia, citing national security concerns amid heightened tensions over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev has sent a strong message to countries, including India, cautioning them against supplying defense equipment to Armenia. Speaking at an event ahead of COP29 in Baku, Aliyev underscored the critical nature of the issue, stating, "It is a matter of our national security. We cannot sit idly by while France, India, and Greece openly arm Armenia against us."

Aliyev's remarks come amidst heightened tensions in the region following the recent conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The longstanding territorial dispute erupted into a full-scale war in 2020, resulting in significant casualties and civilian displacement.

During the event, Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan has directly conveyed its concerns to Armenia and the countries involved in supplying arms to Armenia. "We have clearly communicated this stance to the Armenian government and to those aiding Armenia," Aliyev stated, highlighting the seriousness with which Azerbaijan regards the situation.

Furthermore, the Azeri president hinted at the possibility of taking decisive action if perceived threats to Azerbaijan's security persist. "We will take serious measures if we perceive a substantial threat," Aliyev asserted, indicating Azerbaijan's readiness to safeguard its interests and sovereignty.

The tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia remain a cause for concern in the region, with both sides wary of external support to their adversaries. Aliyev's warning serves as a reminder of the fragile balance in the South Caucasus and the potential consequences of further escalation in the conflict.

The international community will be closely monitoring developments in the region, particularly regarding arms transfers and their impact on the security dynamics between Azerbaijan and Armenia. As both countries navigate the aftermath of the recent conflict, efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue will be paramount in ensuring stability in the region.
