Airbus Chooses Saab’s AI-Enabled EW Suite for German Eurofighters

DFefense News ,Germany :-  Airbus has picked Saab’s Arexis system for Germany’s Eurofighter jets. This choice marks the beginning of integrating the much-awaited technology onto these planes.

In June 2023, it was announced that the Swedish-made Arexis system would be used for the Eurofighters. However, it's only now that an official deal has been reached after further discussions.

Although Saab hasn't specified the exact number, it's known that 15 Eurofighter aircraft in Berlin will receive this advanced technology.

The Arexis system will be powered by artificial intelligence (AI). This will help in quicker and more precise detection and identification of enemy radar signals, even in complicated and busy electromagnetic environments.

Saab’s CEO, Micael Johansson, highlighted the significance of this development. He mentioned, “By combining advanced hardware with AI-enabled software, our Arexis sensor suite will provide the German defense with electronic warfare capabilities that will remain effective for many years to come.”

A Reliable System:

According to Saab, the Arexis EW system comes with modern sensors and self-protection features to counter present-day threats.

It uses gallium nitride active electronically scanned array technology to ensure powerful performance, broad frequency coverage, and minimal delay.

This system, which has been tested in combat situations, can detect and disrupt a wide array of radar threats. It enhances the pilots' situational awareness and provides better protection to the aircraft.

Saab noted that the Arexis suite is well-suited for the German Eurofighters due to its adaptable design, allowing it to be fitted in various configurations.

Johansson emphasized the importance of Saab's experience in developing airborne electronic warfare systems and its ongoing collaboration with Airbus in delivering the Eurofighter EK to the German Air Force.

The Eurofighters equipped with Arexis are anticipated to be ready for service by 2030.
