55 Foreign Terrorists Among 76 Neutralised in J K in 2023: DGP R R Swain
Defense News ,India :- In a significant achievement for the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police R R Swain revealed on Saturday that a total of 76 terrorists, including 55 foreigners, were neutralized during the course of the year. Additionally, 291 terrorist associates were arrested, and 201 overground workers were booked under the Public Safety Act.
Swain emphasized the remarkable reduction in the number of local terrorists, stating that only 31 remain—a historic low for the Union Territory. The Director General of Police further highlighted the decline in terror-related incidents, showcasing a substantial 63% decrease compared to the previous year. Notably, the recruitment of terrorists has also witnessed a downturn, with fewer incidents of strike calls and stone-pelting.
The security situation in the region was not without challenges, as 14 civilians fell victim to terrorist attacks in 2023. Swain expressed condolences for these tragic incidents and reported the loss of four police personnel, including a DSP and an inspector, in terror attacks.
Providing insights into the operations conducted by the security forces, Swain informed the media that 89 terrorist modules were dismantled, and 18 terrorist hideouts were unearthed in Jammu and Kashmir. The authorities also took decisive action by attaching 99 properties valued at more than Rs 170 crore, including buildings, land, orchards, and commercial establishments. Moreover, 68 bank accounts were frozen as part of the efforts to choke terrorist funding.
In a move to curb online propaganda and support for separatism, Swain revealed that over 8,000 fake social media accounts glorifying terrorism and separatism were identified and dealt with appropriately.
The collective efforts of the security forces have undeniably contributed to a safer environment in Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting a noteworthy success in countering terrorism and maintaining public safety.
