13 Israelis, 7 foreigners Held in Gaza to be Released Shortly: Qatar
Following an extended delay in the release of the second group of hostages by Hamas, Qatar foreign ministry has announced that eight Israeli children and five women are anticipated to be freed soon from Gaza, as reported by The Times of Israel. Additionally, seven foreign nationals, part of the more than 230 individuals held captive by Hamas, are also expected to be released.
The Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, shared that among the Palestinian prisoners to be released by Israel in this phase are 33 minors and six women, according to The Times of Israel. Al-Ansari expressed gratitude to mediation partners Egypt and the United States for their collaborative efforts in overcoming obstacles to implementing the agreement terms.
Israel Defense Force Spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari provided an update, stating that there is "significant progress" in the ongoing efforts to secure the release of hostages from the Gaza Strip. He emphasized the moral and ethical duty to bring the hostages back and affirmed the determination to fulfill this obligation.
Hagari cautioned that nothing is final until it happens, highlighting indirect negotiations with what he referred to as an "evil terror group." He underscored the commitment to bringing the hostages back through the agreed-upon deal or the subsequent stages of the conflict, should the agreement not be fulfilled.
In response to the Qatar foreign ministry announcement, US President Joe Biden engaged with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, urging swift action to overcome the delay caused by Hamas in implementing the hostage deal.
In the latest development, Tel Aviv is witnessing rallies with over 100,000 participants, demanding the return of all hostages from Gaza. The second batch, initially slated for release on Saturday afternoon, has faced delays. Notably, the first day of the temporary truce saw the release of 24 hostages, predominantly Israeli and Thai citizens
